Scanning to PDF or TIFF: Which is Better?
When you have a document that you need to scan, there are two file formats that you can choose from scanning to PDF vs TIFF. Which one is the best option? Well, it depends on your needs and what type of scanner you have access to.
The first thing to consider is what you will be scanning. If it’s a document that needs editing, then PDF would work best because this format preserves the formatting and layout of your scanned images very well. The downside is that there are some features on documents like watermarks or signatures which can’t be preserved in PDFs.
If the purpose of scanning is for archiving purposes only (like storing old bank statements), TIFF might serve as a better file format option than PDF because it has higher quality image files without any compression applied. On top of being able to store all types of information including text, images, and graphics, TIFF also has more space per page – up to 400% more! This means that if you need to scan high-volume documents, TIFF is a better option.
If you need a format that is easy to share with other people, PDF might be the best option. It’s a default format in many programs like Microsoft Word and Adobe Acrobat Reader so you can just click on ‘save as’ or export your file into this format without having to do any conversion steps!
Another thing worth noting is that there are two types of scanners: flatbed scanners like Epson Perfection V700 Photo scanner (which scans on glass) and sheetfed scanners like Fujitsu ScanSnap S1300i (which scans paper sheets individually).
They can both scan to PDF or TIFF, but depending on the type of scanner you have access to will determine which file format is best.
